Our story

From our flock,
to your garden

When Jennifer Bailey and her sister began raising sheep on Moon Rising Farm, they saw an opportunity most people overlook — the incredible natural properties of raw wool. By pelletizing that wool and combining it with biochar, they created an all-natural soil amendment unlike anything else on the market.

"We wanted to offer something that not only made gardening easier but also provided tangible benefits to the planet."

— Jennifer Bailey, Moon Rising LLC

Moon Rising is a woman-owned farm in Boyds, Maryland. In addition to Wonder Wool Pellets, the farm runs a commercial bamboo operation focused on eco-friendly residential building — part of a larger mission to restore balance to the land and reduce carbon footprints for future generations.

Why it works

Six reasons your plants
will thank you

01
Water retention
Wool absorbs 20 to 30 times its weight in water, holding moisture in the root zone and reducing watering frequency by up to 25% — even during dry spells.
02
Slow-release nitrogen
Lanolin in the wool naturally releases nitrogen over 15 to 18 months. No burning, no chemical spikes — steady, gentle nourishment season after season.
03
Soil aeration
As pellets break down they improve soil structure, promoting deeper root growth and noticeably larger, more robust plants.
04
Biochar boost
Biochar absorbs CO₂, enriches soil with carbon-rich matter, and creates habitat for beneficial microorganisms that improve fertility over time.
05
Slug & snail repellent
Wool fibers naturally deter slugs and snails when mixed into soil — a welcome bonus you won't find in any synthetic fertilizer.
06
100% natural
Chemical-free, renewable, and biodegradable. Made from real wool from real sheep on a real Maryland farm. As natural as it gets.

See the difference

Same flat. Same day. Same care.
Wildly different results.

These zinnias came from the same plant flat, planted in the same bed on the same day and cared for identically. The only difference was Wonder Wool Pellets.

Zinnia planted without Wonder Wool Pellets — sparse growth Without wool pellets
No wool pellets Sparse growth, smaller blooms, and drier soil throughout the season.
Zinnia planted with Wonder Wool Pellets — dense vibrant blooms With Wonder Wool Pellets
With Wonder Wool Pellets Dense, vibrant blooms that exploded into a full mass of color — same season, same care.

How it works

Simple to use.
Powerful results.

Step 01
Add to soil
Mix pellets directly into potting soil at planting time, or top-dress around existing plants and trees. A handful per hole is all it takes.
Step 02
Pellets absorb water
When watered, the pellets swell gently in the root zone, absorbing up to 20–30 times their weight in water and holding it where plants need it most.
Step 03
Nutrients release slowly
As the wool breaks down, lanolin slowly releases nitrogen, calcium, magnesium, and other micro-nutrients — steadily, for up to 18 months.
Step 04
Plants thrive
Stronger roots, larger plants, bigger yields, and healthier soil — season after season, with no synthetic chemicals required.

Best used for

Works beautifully
everywhere you grow

House plants
Less watering, healthier roots, and long-lasting nutrition — ideal for indoor plants and containers of all sizes.
Garden beds
Increase yields and plant size in vegetable and flower gardens. Watch annuals and perennials explode with growth.
Tree planting
Add a handful to each planting hole for natural nitrogen-fixing support from day one — great for new landscape installs.

Professional testimonial

What a 35-year landscaper
had to say

Moon Rising Farm pasture and sheep
Danielle Langley
Wide Open Spaces Inc.
Damascus, Maryland
35+ years in landscaping
"It was the most growth I had ever seen catmint develop in less than 6 months of planting."

Danielle Langley has spent over 35 years as a professional landscaper. When a client asked her to add a handful of Wonder Wool Pellets into each planting hole during a new landscape install, she agreed without much thought — she had tried plenty of products over the years and wasn't expecting anything out of the ordinary.

She planted 33 Blue Wonder Catmint along a walkway. When she returned that autumn for her routine perennial tidy-up, she was stopped in her tracks. The individual one-gallon plants had grown so large and full that it was difficult to see where one ended and the next began — a level of growth she had never seen from catmint in under six months.

"I believe that the Wool Pellets w/ Bio·Char was the added amendment that added to the vitality of this landscape, and I am looking forward to seeing how the garden comes into its second year of growth."

The result? Danielle is now replacing Osmocote — a leading synthetic fertilizer — with Wonder Wool Pellets across all of her client gardens this season.

"I have decided to use it this year in all my new landscape installs, as well as when I plant annuals this season."
